Welcome to Your Internship Hub
Welcome to the HUES Internship Program!
We're excited to have you join us. This page outlines the core values and procedures that will guide your experience as a social work, community health, or general intern at HUES.
Our Guiding Principles
Lived Experience as Expertise
We honor personal stories as essential knowledge. The people we serve are the experts on their own lives. We listen to learn and center their truths.
Intersectionality & Whole Selves
We embrace the "both/and" reality of our lives, understanding how race, gender, class, and ability intersect to shape health experiences.
Relationality & Community Care
We believe we are responsible for one another. Our work is rooted in building trust, mutual support, and deep relationships.
Decolonial & Liberatory Practice
We actively work to dismantle oppressive structures in healthcare. Our goal is to collectively build new models of wellness and justice.
Conocimiento (Knowledge from Struggle)
We know that transformative knowledge emerges from struggle, reflection, and action (*praxis*). We are committed to learning by doing.
Our Mission
To advance health equity by challenging oppressive systems and providing culturally-rooted support for women and gender-expansive people.
Our Commitment to a Safe & Brave Space
Zero-Tolerance for Discrimination
We are all responsible for co-creating a space where everyone feels safe, valued, and brave. We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, and behavior that upholds oppression.
Confidentiality & Sacred Stories
Our clients trust us with their stories, and we view them as sacred. You must maintain strict confidentiality to honor that trust. This act of witnessing is a privilege.
Boundaries & Right-Relationship
We practice being in "right-relationship" with our clients. This means maintaining boundaries that are clear, respectful, and protect the well-being of everyone.
Community Accountability
When challenges arise, we approach them through the lens of community care and accountability, not punishment. We have a strict non-retaliation policy.
