Healthcare Roles & Providers
Definition: A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a person before, during, and after childbirth. Unlike medical providers, doulas focus on comfort, advocacy, and ensuring the birthing person's voice is heard and respected throughout their pregnancy journey. Birth doulas support labor and delivery, while postpartum doulas assist families after birth. Many communities of color have rich traditions of doula care and birth work.
